If you’ve never played before, Euchre (pronounced YOU-ker) is a classic trick-taking card game that’s especially popular in the Midwest. Played with four people in teams of two, the game uses a smaller deck (usually 24 cards, from 9s through Aces). Each round, one suit is chosen as the “trump,” which outranks the others. The goal is simple: your team must win the majority of the tricks in each hand to score points.

What makes Euchre exciting is its mix of strategy, memory, and teamwork. You’ll need to decide when to play high cards, when to trust your partner, and when to take risks. It’s easy to learn, but endlessly engaging — perfect for both beginners and seasoned players. In fact, Euchre has been around since the early 19th century and even introduced the joker card into modern decks.
