Greetings and welcome to summertime at OCSC!
By the time that you read this, Memorial Day 2026 will be in your rearview mirror (the traditional start of summertime!) and I hope that everyone had a safe and enjoyable holiday.
First, though, I want to recognize the passing of Life Member Gordon Garten (aka JR). A Celebration of Life was held at Williams Lake Church and was very well attended by many of Gordon’s friends and family, including a large contingent of OCSC members. OCSC will host an informal gathering to honor Gordon…
details to follow. On behalf of OCSC, godspeed Gordon. You will be missed.
Now, on with the show! There’s a lot going on at OCSC…
- On Saturday, June 13, OCSC is hosting a HUGE event… Magic Bus, a well-known musical band, is playing at OCSC! The band always draws a large crowd of music lovers that dance the night away. Details and tickets for this event are available at the main OCSC office or in the bar.
- MMRA and WHRRI are back and in full swing with car racing activities planned throughout the summer and early fall. Please be alert to the pedestrians in the parking lots… the posted speed limit on OCSC property is 15 MPH.
- Ladies Adventure Day is taking place on Saturday, May 30, at OCSC. The event is, once again, sold out! LAD provides participants with an opportunity to sample the many opportunities that are available at OCSC (archery, shotgun, rifle, and pistol shooting to name a few). I’m told that the ladies who participate can’t stop talking about what a great event this is!
- OCSC will host the Michigan State Steel Championship match on June 5, 6, and 7… this is a real “feather in our cap” and OCSC is honored to be selected to host this event. A lot of hard work (and a lot of sore muscles) went into this, and I’m sure that it will be judged as a success! This event attracts competitors from across the US and some international shooters as well. This is a “very big deal”!
- Archery is keeping a steady pace of league offerings and other fun shoots. Check the archery Facebook page for details.
- The Fishing Club has put the dock in Townsend Lake, and the lake is open to fishing and general enjoyment.
- IDPA and USPSA are running events all summer long. Check the OCSC website for details.
If you don’t see something here that gets your motor running (I can’t possibly mention everything that’s happening at OCSC), please check the OCSC website, https://ocsportsmensclub.com, for more information and details. Or go to the OCSC Facebook page. And remember to volunteer your time at OCSC… make this club a
great place to enjoy the Michigan summer.
I look forward to seeing you at OCSC!
Michael Graham
