September is coming to an end, and you know what that means?
Broadhead League is over and archery deer season begins October 1st. We hope everyone gets a deer. This year the Hunter’s Banquet is back, sponsored by Muzzleloaders. They are looking for game donations. Consider donating game and coming to the banquet.
Smile for the camera! Archery is now being monitored 24 hours a day. We have 10 cameras installed in and around the main buildings to enhance security of our assets.
On Labor Day weekend, we had a vine removal Workbee. The crew was tasked with cutting vines climbing up the trees in the Archery Forest. With short notice of 1 week, we had 20 people cutting vines! A few of them never shot a bow. We appreciated everyone that showed up to help us gain the upper hand on this invasive vine.
In September, we held the 3D Bowhunter Platform Challenge Shoot. The turnout was light with only 14 archers. They provided ideas on using the platform.
Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) held an open house on September 14th. The goal was for each member to bring a friend. We had a few new faces. Practice resumes on the indoor range on September 21, from 1:30-4 pm. The coaches will meet on September 28th to formulate a plan for practice and tournaments for the winter season.
Fall Leagues begin on September 23rd with the Flint League on Tuesdays@ 7:00 pm and the Women’s NFAA League on Thursdays @ 6:30 pm. Both leagues run for 10 weeks excluding Thanksgiving Day.
Parks & Rec Archery Instruction begins on October 1st with 2 lines at 4:30 and 6:30 pm. Sign up through Independence, Springfield or Waterford Township. This is open to all youth 8 years and older, adults, members or non-members.
Workbees end at the end of September for the hunting seasons. Our next scheduled workbee will be the indoor wall rebuild scheduled for December 27th. We have things to do for anyone looking for work hours.
