Honors Ceremony for Ed Kretsch
August 28, 2025
In August, we held the third leg of the 3D BBQ shoot.
37 archers showed up on a very hot day (92°F /33°C) to shoot 30 3D targets ranging from 15 to 40 yards. After the shoot, everyone enjoyed the barbecue with pulled pork, hot dogs, or hamburgers grilled to perfection with all the fixings. The following weekend, August 16-17, was the 51st Bowhunter Jamboree. We designed a unique 15-station, 30-target trail shoot stretching across the whole Archery woods. Saturday was a light day as the temperature soared into the 90s. Sunday was a beautiful day with a nice breeze. We had 42 archers for the weekend. Everyone thought it was a wonderful course.
Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) is practicing for the MSU Archery Fall Classic at the Demmer Center. The team has rooms at the Hampton Inn in Okemos on Saturday and plans to have a team dinner after they shoot. Practice will continue on the FITA field on Sundays from 1:30 to 4 PM through the month of August. In case of rain, practice will move to the indoor range. On September 14th from 2 to 4 PM, JOAD will be having an open house for all youth interested in knowing more about who we are. Bring your bow if you have one. Check
it out! JOAD Open House.
Broadhead league continues through September 18th on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with starting times from 4 to 7 PM and Wednesdays from 9 to 11 AM. Come out to hone your skills ahead of the archery deer season. The Broadhead league banquets will be immediately following the last day of the league. All leagues are open to the public.
Fall Leagues begin in September with the Flint League on Tuesdays, September 23, at 7:00 PMand the Women’s NFAA League on Thursdays at 6:30 PM. Both leagues run for 10 weeks, excluding Thanksgiving Day.
Parks & Rec Archery Instruction begins on October 1st with 2 lines at 4:30 and 6:30 PM. Sign up through Independence, Springfield, or Waterford Township. This is open to all youth 8 years and older, adults, members, or non-members.
Work bees will continue Tuesdays at 9 AM through September. The work bee crew takes a break in October and November to go hunting. We have a long list of things to do. Anyone looking for work hours, we have numerous individual projects that need to be done. Work bees will restart in December, beginning with the indoor wall rebuild.
Check the Archery website for event times and range closures at: 2025 Archery Events or
